Early Intervention

The Early Intervention program is designed to enhance early childhood development for children, age birth to six, who are blind or visually impaired. The program lays the groundwork for future learning by helping each child progress through normal developmental stages and by fostering their ability to function independently. In addition, the program provides education and information for parents to facilitate optimum learning and developmental milestone attainment with their children.Services for children age birth to two include interaction with objects; sensory development, touch and hearing; motor, orientation and mobility; communication and social skills; and early literacy experiences. Services for children age three to six include a continuation of early literacy, mobility, communication and social skill development; self-care and independence; cognition and concept development; and an assessment to provide an individualized program/transition plan. To ensure a continuum of social interaction, playgroups and family outings are organized by program staff.
